UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT of AGRICULTURE AWARDS $28.5MILLION TO GAMBIA
The Gambia has been awarded $28.5 million by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), to support its food security program.
These funds will be awarded by the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program
This award is part of the $2 billion in additional funding President Biden announced at the United Nations General Assembly to improve global food security.
McGovern-Dole International Food For Education and Child Nutrition Program supports education, child development, and food security in low-income, food-deficit countries all over the world.
This program allows for the donation of U.S. agricultural products, as well as financial and technical assistance to support school feeding, maternal and child nutrition, and other projects.
McGovern-Dole programs help increase school enrollment and academic performance by providing school meals, teacher training, and other support.
The program offers nutrition programs for infants, pre-schoolers, pregnant and nursing mothers, as well as nutrition classes.
