Indian farmers will soon use drones for their crop cultivation

The GOI may offer financial assistance to farmers for the purchase of drones.

A press release was issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, on 26 July 2022.

For purchase of drones to Farm Machinery Training & Testing Institutes of Indian Council of Agricultural Research Krishi Vigyan Kendra, and State Agricultural Universities.

The government plans to provide financial assistance of 100% or rupees 10 Lakh, whichever is lower.

General category farmers and Custom Hiring Centres will receive 75% financial assistance from FPOs, and 40%, or rupee 4 Lakh, whichever is lower.

A 50% aid or rupees 55,000, whichever is lower, will be given to drone buyers to SC/ST/women/small- and marginal farmers, and to agriculture graduates.

The press release mentions also the formation of the Steering Committee

This group includes experts from various Ministries of the Government of India and fields/domains.

Educational & Research Institutes, private players in the tech industry, and other stakeholders can be consulted on initiatives by the GOI to digitize agricultural production.

These initiatives include AgriStack, India Digital Ecosystem in Agriculture, and AgriStack.
